Herbarium Collection - Artists - Elena Grossi

Elena Grossi (b. 1994 in Montecchio Emilia, Italy) is graduated in Painting (BA) and subsequently in Visual Arts (MA) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. Interested in different representation systems with particular attention to photography and the poetic reuse of the latter, in her works she reflects on the concepts of illusion, memory and distance. In 2016, she participated in a residency project in the spaces of the Colonos Cultural Association (Lestizza, Ud). In 2018 she was selected at C.O.C.A PRIZE (Roma) and obtained the Art Up Prize on the occasion of Opentour (Bologna). Among the latest group exhibitions in which she participated: Fan Culture, CICA Museum, Gimpo, South Korea (2021); Immagini, note di sguardi, Bologna (2020); In 24-Hours, The Wall Space, Falkirk, United Kingdom (2020); Neighbourhood, Sct. Peders Kirke, Randers, Denmark (2020); Geografie della memoria, Istituto Storico Parri, Bologna (2019); MYSELF, spazio microLive,
Milano (2019). In 2019 she held her first solo show Kunst im Wohnzimmer 04 - Elena Grossi in Munich, Germany.

The Herbarium project explores the work environment in contemporary culture in which ideas are created and exchanged. The focus of Herbarium is to compile a collection of sealed creative energy in boxes (40х40х10, 40x20x10 or 20х40х10) of different generations of artists around the world. The contents of each box are accompanied by a description and a sound file with the artist's voice. The artists, invited by the curator of "Herbarium" could choose two new participants - so the project traces the exchange of creative energy in the artworld. The development of the collection has no time limits, it grows exponentially with each new participant until the final exhibition is announced. The H Talks series (video portraits of the artists) are shot during the preparation of each presentation of the Herbarium collection in the artists work environment and studios. All the information, gathered in the process of developing the collection, will be available to all researchers, curators, gallery owners, students or art lovers who are interested in the less visible mechanisms through which contemporary culture functions.
