The Real Crashed (2016-2021)

The Herbarium project, I admit, made me a little sweaty. Usually my work is turned outwards, to some issues related to cultural, social and political relations, or to a certain media.
In this case, however, the center of the project is the artist's self-observation and the creative process.
I took the task a little literally. I am offering a work from 2016, belonging to a project “The Look Objects Give Us Looking back through Us" from which very few things are still at my disposal.
I closed the object in the sarcophagus of the white box, like a specimen from a herbarium collection really, like a fossil from a process that once flowed and continues to flow.
The work is born of yet another series of works, called "Monument of the Time Elapsed", using also dead gadgets. In that series I enacted unusual intervention on the surface of the screens of the gadgets - I engraved the images of their users.
Similarly, in the present work, a non-functioning mobile phone is immersed in a puddle of primary colors that seep behind the surface of the screen.
Two materials of a completely different register interact to emphasize each other's media specifics. The paint returns materiality to the screen (originally designed for virtual images), while the digital gadget expresses the virtual characteristics of the paint.
