Last traces of my digital ego - from now on I would gatekeep myself

“Last traces of my digital ego - from now on I would gatekeep myself” is a multimedia sculptural installation, that reinterprets a critical re-examination of the digital ego. At its core lies a 4.3-inch LCD screen, which displays a moving 3D scan of the artist, functioning as a digital proxy. The mirrored frame and screen together become a portal of self-awareness — where the artist is both looking and being looked at. The viewer imposes their reflection onto the digital portrait, acting as both a visual distortion and a symbolic representation of identity as something fluid, chaotic, and multifaceted. This creates a layered visual dialogue between the virtual self of the artist on the screen and the real-time reflection in the mirrored frame. This becomes an act of looking into a personal moment of recognition and distortion. The abstract shape of the mirror challenges expectations, disrupting symmetry and forcing the gaze into new, unfamiliar angles. The work interrogates the mechanisms by which beauty standards, digital reproduction, and technological mediation influence not only how we see ourselves, but how we inhabit our own bodies and identities in the post-digital age.

Sofia Dimova born 1996 in Varna, Bulgaria is a multidisciplinary artist.  She graduated from Minerva Academy (Groningen, The Netherlands) with a degree in Fine Arts in 2019. In her practice, Sofia combines different materials and techniques that help her to create an interconnection between personal, fundamental and socio-political issues that seek content and message beyond classical aesthetics. The visual language she uses is blunt and direct, and follows its own logic. This rebellion against trivial artistic appearance is extremely effective among the audience.
