I TRUST THE ERRORS ONLY

Valio Tchenkov (born in 1966 in Svishtov, Bulgaria) lives and works between Munich, Germany and Oresh, Bulgaria. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia and the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including the 56th Venice Biennale (2015) and the Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art (RIBOCA1, 2018).
In his work, Valio Tchenkov reacts to the rigid social constructions in society, describing the German sense of structure as ruthless. This often leads him to destructive and unpredictable gestures, which he finds most interesting and fruitful. Beginning with deliberate preparation and control, he seeks the moment of “getting off track” - a moment in which new insights and possibilities are unlocked. Valio Chenkov believes that “catastrophes can sometimes be very productive,” inspired by historically serendipitous discoveries like America, champagne, penicillin, and aspirin.
